With so many people needing assistance, it seemed like an evacuation from Afghanistan was hopeless for Ahmad and his family. One night, Ahmad and his family received a life changing call - they met the requirements and there was room for them on a flight. They each packed one bag and said goodbye to the rest of their extended family.
Ahmad has been a doctor and public health professional in Afghanistan for over 25 years. He worked with a USAID contractor as well as many other US affiliated healthcare agencies over his career. His family is Hazara and due to the threat of persecution based on their religion and his affiliation with the US government, the family faced a hopeless situation.
Words from Ahmad
After the collapse of Afghanistan former Government and closure of all airports and borders, we had lost all the hopes to stay alive and I was feeling we are the end of the line and was thinking to say good bye to everything, definitely when you see everything is ruined in front of your eyes, you will start thinking like this, exactly at the time, I have received a miraculous called that was asking if I wanted to say good bye to all problems and get ready to start a new life.
Yes, it was Ms. Jessica call that has given us all new hope and new reason to continue life, and for a moment it was unbelievable for me, of course previous coordination was made but it was not possible due to high security threats.
With a great and excellent coordination, we were transported by bus to the airport and after a stressful waiting and passing many checkpoints, we were able to board the plane and had to say forever goodbye to my country.
I am now here with my family, although everything was dark sometimes ago and now here, I want to plan to plan our future life and serve the new community, the most important point was my daughters’ education, and I am hoping that they will one day serve as well.
I am thankful to the cooperation of the Taskforce Argo which has now allowed me to give a new breath to our life, I know if it didn’t happen, we were waiting for an uncertain future.
